PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

Time: 3 Hours

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE:
1. In this assessment, you will be required to perform ONE (1) task.
 Setup Functional Network

This paper consists of TWO (2) printed pages


Candidates should check the question paper to ascertain that all pages
are printed as indicated and that no questions are missing

You have been provided with the following resources for the practical tasks:
 Working desktop Computer installed with network configuration tool based on
devices to be configured.
 A switch to be shared among trainees
 A router to be shared among the trainees
 Crimping tool
 Cable cutter
 Ethernet cable tester
 Cat5/Cat5e cable
 8 rj45 connector

TASK 1: Setting up a functional network


Vindu Academy management has contracted you to set up a network system for them which will
enable them to get internet services and share their hardware resource. As a system administrator,
you are tasked to set up the network as guided below:
1. Identify the components provided.
2. Crimp three feet long Ethernet cable.
3. Test the functionality of the cables crimped in question (2) above.
4. Connect the router to the pc and perform the following configuration
a) Set an appropriate console login password.
b) Set the first two port to first Ethernet e.g Fa/0/0 at no-shutdown state.
c) Use Class B IP address to configure the ports in part (b) above.
d) Set appropriate default gateway ip address and default subnet ip address.
5. Connect the provided switch and configure its first two ports to first Ethernet.
6. Configure the two ports in question 3 above using the class B ip addresses available.
7. Set a network of the computer, switch and router and configure static ip address to it.
8. Using appropriate command test the functionality of the network.
