SYMBIOSIS CENTRE FOR DISTANCE LEARNING
(SCDL)
Project Guidelines for ‘Certificate in Data Analytics’
As a part of the curriculum of Certificate in Data Analytics, students will
carry out a Project. While developing the project, the students will follow certain
internal evaluation procedures of SCDL. Astudent should choose a technical or
Techno-business topic of his/her interest.
Understanding significance of Project Report
In order to acquire the right balance, learner should consider the aim behind making the
good project. It provides the opportunity for learner to demonstrate independence and
originality, to plan and organize the project work, and to put into practice some of the
technique’s learners have been taught throughout the program.
Meaning of Project
A project can be defined as a temporary endeavour undertaken to achieve a particular
aim or it is a study of factual information for comprehending and applying the various
concepts of the course into practice. In simple words, a Project can be understood as
mentioned under- • It is a practice of verification or demonstration of concepts or
hypotheses or process/es. In fact, Project is a supplement to learning.
• It is a technique of self-learning, of learning by doing. It has a practical value.
• The purpose of the project is not to generalize but to study the situation with
practical orientation.
Project Objectives
This Project is made a part of the curriculum to allow a student to experience real-life
situations in order to substantiate their learnings. In addition, they are expected to
learn new technologies or methodologies or practices. A large part of the evaluation
will depend on this. In addition, if a student contributes in terms of an original
solution or an idea or suggestions they will be deemed valuable. Student can either
developed/implement new software/application or use any existing techniques/tools in
real practice, theoretical based/study-based projects are not accepted.
Project Submission
At the end of course, every learner has to submit the soft copy of the complete
project online.Only the soft copy of the Project documentation along with the aspects
mentioned inthe guidelines should be submitted online. Project Reports which
are not as per the guidelines willnot qualify for evaluation. The standard font type
‘Times new Roman’ with 12 pointsfont size should be used by the learners for
preparing the Project Report. Figures and tables should be presented immediately
following their first mention in the text. Allthe figures and tables must be serially
numbered, captioned, and cited in the body text. Equations should form separate lines
with appropriate paragraph separationabove and below the equation line, with
equation numbers aligned to the right.
Learners have to submit the project based on the given below chapters/aspects.
Project will be assessed on the basis of following:
Chapter 1: Introduction
This chapter will give an overview of the project. It shall give an introduction to the
fundamentals, present scenario of various technologies/methodologies concerned with
the theme of project purpose, scope and objectives of the project, and background of
the project. It will also include the research problem (technical or Techno-business) and
also clearly explain the methodology of the conduct of research. It shall comprise of:
- Objectives
- Scope and Background
- User Requirements (If any)
- Unresolved Issues (If any)
Chapter 2 – Analysis of Work Done and Design
This is a very crucial chapter in the project since it explains the work done by the
researcher and the analysis justifying the work. It will explain in detail in a step-by-
step manner the conduct of the project and the technology/tools used, stages of
development, use of special software tools (if any), use of statistical techniques (if any),
various tests of validity of the approaches used and data analysis.
Due importance shall be given to procedures adopted and techniques developed,
methodologies developed and adopted. While important
derivations/formulae/codes/syntaxes/templates/models/flow-charts should normally
be presented as a part of this chapter.
This section shall comprise use of Power BI/ Ms Excel/ Python Programming.
Chapter 3 – Conclusion/ Findings/ Suggestions
This chapter shall include a thorough evaluation of the investigation carried out and
bring out the findings, suggestion and contributions of project. The discussion shall
logically lead to inferences and conclusions as well as scope for future research as much
as possible. Conclusions derived from the logical analysis shall be presentedand
clearly enumerated, each point stated separately.
Chapter 4 - Bibliography / References
This shall form the final chapter of the thesis. The students shall follow the IEEE style
of citation only, for example:

Steps to create Data Analytic Project
You can follow these steps to develop project:
1) Choose a dataset of your interest.
It can be related to sports, movies, or music – anything that interests you. The most
common websites to get the data are:
Kaggle Datasets
UCI Repository
Data World
Government websites
Scrape the data yourself
2) Choose an IDE: You can make use Power BI/ Python Programming/ MS
Excel
3) List down the activities clearly like
I. Data cleaning – It is the process of identifying and removing the anomalies in the
dataset (Pandas/Github)
II. Data Transformation – It involves changing the data type of the columns,
creating derived columns or removing duplicate data to name a few
III. Exploratory data analysis – Perform univariate and multi-variate analysis on the
datasets to find hidden insights and patterns in them
4) Prepare a summary TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PROJECT
REPORT
• Project should be submitted in soft copy only.
• Font: Times New Roman, 12 size, 1.5 spacing
• Margin: Left 35 mm. Right 20 mm. Top 35 mm. Bottom 20 mm.
• Preliminary page should have the following information:
o Top: The title in CAPITAL letters o Centre: Full name of the student in CAPITAL
letters and Registration Number
o Bottom: Name of the Institute (SCDL) in CAPITAL letters and the Academic year
Follow Chicago Style of referencing for your project work.
• Use heading levels for ease of access.
• Use clear graphics and outline every graphic. Lock the graphic so that it will not
move.
DECLARATION BY THE LEARNER
Declaration by the student should be given in the following format.
This is to declare that I have carried out this project work myself in part fulfillment of
the
Program of SCDL.
The work is original, has not been copied from anywhere else and has not been
submitted to any other
University/Institute for an award of any degree/diploma.

Important Instructions.
• The Student should submit the Project Report as per the project guidelines given by
SCDL.
• For query on evaluation of project the students are required to contact SCDL within
8 - 10 working days after the Project marks reflected in performance sheet. The queries
received after mentioned above said time will not be considered.
