Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Canvas?

Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is mainly used by


INTI’s lecturers and students to access and manage online course learning materials
and communicate about skill development and learning achievement.

How can I use Canvas on my mobile device as a student?

Canvas is built on open web standards, so most features are supported on mobile
devices. You can access Canvas from any browser on your Android/iOS device.
However, mobile browsers are not supported, and features may not function as
expected compared to viewing Canvas in a fully supported desktop browser.

Canvas Student – is the app that provides access to Canvas while on the go.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)


Multi-factor authentication adds security to your account by verifying you are the
user accessing your account. You must have a mobile device to set up multi-factor
authentication for your user account.

Global navigation
The Global Navigation Menu is located on the left side of every page in Canvas. Global
Navigation links provide quick access to frequently used Canvas features. These links
provide access to all your courses collectively. Default links include the Dashboard,
Courses, Groups, Calendar, Inbox, User Account, and the Help menu.

Dashboard
The Dashboard is the first thing you will see when you log into Canvas. The Dashboard
helps you see what is happening in all your current courses.

A. Card View: Displays course cards for quick access to all your favorite courses.
B. List View: Displays all course to-do items in an agenda view.
C. Recent Activity: Shows you important recent activities from all of your courses
including announcements, discussions, assignments, and conversations.

Accessing all courses


The 'Courses' button in your Global Navigation lists all of your courses in Canvas,
including current and past enrollments.

Course announcement
Announcements are a course tool that your instructor may use to send out important
information to you and your classmates. Your instructor can choose where you can view
class announcements. You may see recent Announcements on your Course Home Page
or in a link in your Course Navigation where you can view all course announcements.

Modules
Canvas Modules are an organizational tool that help instructors structure course
content by day, week, unit, topic, or outcome. Modules help simplify student navigation
through a course and ensure a sequential flow of content. Each Module can contain
files, discussions, assignments, quizzes, and other learning materials.

Select "Modules" from the Course Navigation on the left. If you do

have hidden the module list from student view.

Assignments
Assignments include Quizzes, graded Discussions, and online submissions (i.e. files,
images, text, URLs, etc.). Some assignments are submitted for no grade. Other
assignments may be submitted offline but tracked in the Canvas Gradebook or be
submitted online.

Click Assignments

The most common locations to view assignments are in the


1 Calendar, Modules, or the Assignment Index.

From this page, view assignments by


date or by assignment type.

In Assignments, you can view all the assignments in your course.

Quizzes
Quizzes in Canvas are assignments that can be used to challenge student
understanding and assess comprehension of course material. You can view quizzes in
your course by accessing the Quizzes page. Common locations to view assignments are
in the Calendar, Modules, or the Assignment Index.

Viewing previous attempt history

Attempt History: View your score and answers from previous quiz attempts.

Last Attempt Details: View the score for your last attempt and your "Kept" score for
the quiz. Note your instructor may keep your highest attempt, your last attempt, or an
average of all attempts as your final score.

Attempt Overview: See how many attempts you have completed and how many you
have left.

Discussions
Discussions allows for interactive communication between two or more people; users
can participate in a conversation with an entire class or group.

Discussions can also be created as an assignment for grading purposes (and


seamlessly integrated with the Canvas Gradebook), or simply serve as a forum for
topical and current events. Discussions can also be created within student groups.

By using the student app, you can access course information, communicate with your
instructor, submit assignments, check grades, and manage your Canvas account.

1. Download Canvas Student app on device
