SYMBOLS USED
In this Tech Tip, the following symbols are used to represent the Keys on the control panel to be used. Please note
the type brackets used for each type of Key. [ ] or { }

HARD KEYS are Keys that are found to the right of the control Screen and have printed names on them. I show
them as [xxxx] Where the xxxx is replaced with the printing on the Key

SOFT KEYS Are Keys that are found along the bottom of the screen, they are called Soft Keys because
there function will change depending on the mode and screen displayed. I show them as {xxxx} where
the xxxx is replaced with what the Key is labeled on the screen. The {>} key is the right most soft key and
changes what is the displayed on the soft keys
NOTES:
1. Turning on PWE
A. Set Mode Selector switch to MDI
B. Set Data Edit Key Switch to Data Write
C. Press [OFFSET SETTING] Hard Key
D. Press {SETTING} Soft Key Cursor should be on PWE
E. Press [1] [INPUT]
F. Control gives alarm and PWE now on
2. Changing the I/O port
A. Set Mode Selector switch to MDI
B. Set Data Edit Key Switch to Data Write
C. Press [OFFSET SETTING] Hard Key
D. Press [] Cursor down to move cursor to I/O
E. Press [0] = HSSB (cop 7)
[1] = RS232C serial port 1 (jd36a)

[3] = Remote buffer interface (RS232C)(jd28a)
[4] = Flash memory, sdram card in the Card slot at the left side of CRT
[5] = Data server
F. Press [INPUT]
With a Fanuc 8 Meg Flash Memory Data Server and Ethernet System installed, you have four memory Locations
to store Micrograms

A. The Standard Control Memory


B. The Data Server Flash Memory
C. A Directory on a PC’s Hard Drive over the Ethernet cable
D. Memory Card Loaded in to a slot Left side the CRT Panel

You can transfer NC Programs directly between any two locations


You can run NC Programs form any location directly A, B, C or D, or as a SUB Program from A, B or C
To do any of the above you first must set up the Data Server. And RS-232
By setting the Port #, IP Address. And User Name.
Similar to RS-232 settings, the values are not important as long as they Match.

STEPS IN SETTING UP THE DATA SERVER NETWORK
1. Setup Network on your PC
A. (Install PC network card if required using instructions that came with the network card)

2. Set up the PC’s Network IP address (windows 95 & 98)


NOTE: THIS REQUIRES The original Windows CD or the Cab Files on Your Hard Drive
IP ADDRESS NOTES: The IP address format is xxx.xxx.xxx.yyyy. Where xxx = your network address
and will nominally be the same on all computers on the network. The yyy is the unique to one computer of
device. CAUTION: If you have a large network system installed on your Computer.
Please Check with Your network administrator for the correct IP ADDRESS

A. Click on (Start)
B. Click on (SETTINGS)
C. Click on (CONTROL PANEL)
D. Click on (NETWORK)

E. Check in the list that appears for TCP/IP for you network card, if it exists Go to step L.
F. Click on (ADD)
G. Click on (PROTOCOL)
H. Click on (ADD)
I. Click on (MICROSOFT)
J. Click on (TCP/IP)
K. Click on (OK)
L. Locate and click on TCP/IP to Hi-Light it.
M. Click on (PROPERTIES)
N. Click on (SPECIFY IP ADDRESS) if not already
O. If the IP address already has a value Write it down you will need it for the machine
P. If not, Enter your own IP address, Example 1.1.1.1 will work. (See Caution in note above)
Q. IN sub Mask Enter 255.255.255.0
R. Click on (OK)
S. Click on (OK)
T. You will be asked to put in the original windows disk then Follow the prompts from there on.

3. Set up Ethernet parameters in the Fanuc 16i control
A. Turn on PWE (See page 2)

B. Set I/O to 5 (See page 2)

C. Press the [SYSTEM] Hard Key

D. Press {>} Soft Key about six (6) times until you see the {ETHPRM} Soft Key

E. Press {ETHPRM} Soft Key

F. On older controls jump to Step I

G Press the {OPRT} you will see {BOARD} & {EMBEDD} soft keys

H. Press the {BOARD} Soft Key (Note Kitamura only uses the Board Embedded is not available)

I. NOTE top of screen shows page 1/5 And Check MAC Address is present if not Call Kitamura

J. Enter IP Address must be the same as PC’s but last number Must be unique to the network,
This the machine address (Example 1.1.1.2)

K. Set Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0

L Push Page down to go to page 2/5

M Enter 21 in the port number

N Set IP Address to equal the IP address of the PC you set in step 2P on page 3 Example (1.1.1.1)

O In USER NAME ( Required ) Enter a user name


P In PASSWORD ( Not Required ) (If you Enter a password write it down so don’t forget it)
Q In LOGIN DIR ( Required ) Enter the complete path and name of the directory on the PC
Where your Files are stored, Example (/dataserv)
R. On page 3 & 4 You can set up other locations on the network you must keep port #21
If you put in different a IP address, or login directory’s. You will be able to change
the connect point at any time with out turning PWE on. (See 3.1. Below)
S. Go to Page 5/5
T. Enter a user name
U. Enter a directory name (this will create a directory on the data server to save files to)
V. Turn OFF PWE (See page 2)

3.1 To Change the network connection point
A. Press [PROGRAM] Hard Key
B Press the {>} Soft Key two (2) times until {HD-DIR} {HOST} {CONECT} shows on the Soft Keys
C. Press the {CONECT} Soft Key this will display a list of the three connect points

D. On older controls jump to Step G

E Press the {OPRT} you will see {BOARD} & {EMBEDD} soft keys

F. Press the {BOARD} Soft Key (Note Kitamura only uses the Board Embedded is not available)
G. Press the desired Soft Key {CON1} {CON2} {CON3} note the cursor shows the active setting

4. Install and set up FTP Software


A. Any FTP Software should work. If you need a FTP Program, Kitamura can E-Mail you a copy of a
Shareware Program and if you use it would you Please register it. Thank you.

B. If you get the program from Kitamura, it should be the self-extracting Zip file (FTPSETUP.EXE)
C. Run Windows Explorer
D. Make a directory on your Hard Drive called WFTPD
E. Copy the file (FTPSETUP.EXE) to the WFTPD Directory
F. Run Program FTPSETUP.EXE this will unzip all the files into the directory
G. Change explorer to a smaller window
H. Right click on the Red Icon for WFTPD and drag it to your desktop. Then let up on mouse and
when asked click on “Create Shortcut Here”
I From your desktop double click on the WFTPD icon to run the Program.
J You can then minimize the Program if you wish.
K. Your Computer is now ready to upload or download from the machine over your network.

5. Create a directory on the PC Hard Drive where you wish to store the NC Programs.
This must be the same name in both your Hard Drive and the control (Example dataserv)

A Make a directory if necessary on your hard drive must be the same name as entered in step 3Q
above where you want to store your NC Programs.

6. NOTES:
A. Cable must be CAT-5 or better
B. Use a Straight Through cable for Machine to Network Hub
Use a Crossed cable for machine direct to a PC.
C. The Data Server has two modes
C1. Storage = Run or transfer Programs from the Data Servers Flash memory.
C2. FTP = Run or transfer Programs from a PC’s Hard Drive over the Ethernet cable
C3. Note: You can upload and download between the Data Server and PC’s Hard Drive in either mode

D. To Change Modes
D1. Press [SYSTEM]

D2. Press {>} Soft Key Three (3) times until {DS-MTN} shows on the Soft Keys.

D3. Press {DS-MTN}

D4. Press {OPRT}

D5. Press {FTP} {EXEC} or {STAGE} {EXEC}

7. The Network connection can be checked by sending a ping to the PC.


A. Press the [SYSTEM] Hard Key

B. Press {>} Soft Key about six (6) times until you see the {ETHPRM} Soft Key
C Press the {ETHMNT} soft key for Ethernet Maintenance
D. Press the {BOARD} soft key
E Key in the IP address of the PC and press the {PING} soft key
F. If connection is good the control displays Reply From 1.1.1.1 (IP address you pinged)
G. If connection is bad the control displays Request Timed Out 1.1.1.1 (IP address you pinged)

GENERAL OPERATION
The Following is only for quick reference. For complete Operating Information please refer to.
FANUC Operator’s Manual ( FANUC ETHERNET BOARD, DATA SERVER BOARD # B-63354EN )

NOTE: For this KEC the terms Upload & Download, refer to, to and from the Data server memory
Upload {PUT} means to send a file (out) of the Data Server memory
Download {GET} means to bring a file (in) to the Data Server memory

{GET}
1. Download from a PC’s Hard Drive to the Data Server Flash Memory over the network cable

A. Press [PROGRAM] Hard Key

B Press the {>} Soft Key two (2) times until {HD-DIR} {HOST} {CONECT} shows on the Soft Keys

C. Press the {HOST} Soft Key this will display a list of the Programs in the directory on the PC’s
Hard drive that is set up in the parameters (See #5 on page 5 )

D. Press the {OPRT} Soft Key

E. Press the {>} one (1) time until {GET} shows on the Soft Keys

F. Key in the File Number or File Name

G. Press the {GET} Soft Key

H. Press the {EXEC} Soft Key

I. GET will flash in the lower right corner of the display during the File transfer.

J. COMPLETE will flash in lower left corner of the display when file transfer is completed

NOTE: An alarm will be given if a file of the same name is in the server flash memory

{PUT}
2. Upload from the Data Server Flash Memory to a PC’s Hard Drive over the network cable
A. Press [Program] Hard Key
B. Press the {>} Soft Key two (2) times until {HD-DIR} {HOST} {CONECT} shows on the Soft Keys
C. Press the {HD-DIR} Soft Key this will display a list of the Programs in the Data Server Flash Memory
D. Press the {OPRT} Soft Key
E. Press the {>} Soft Key one (1) time until {PUT} shows on the Soft Keys
F. Key in the File Number or File Name
G. Press the {PUT} Soft Key
H. Press the {EXEC} Soft Key
I. PUT will flash in the lower right corner of the display during the File transfer.
J. COMPLETE will flash in lower left corner of the display when file transfer is completed
NOTE: An alarm will be given if a file of the same name is in the server flash memory

3. To delete a file on the PC’s Hard Drive


A. Press [Program] Hard Key
B. Press the {>} Soft Key two (2) times until {HD-DIR} {HOST} {CONECT} shows on the Soft Keys.
C. Press the {HOST} Soft Key to display a list of the Programs in the directory on the PC’s H.D.
OR
Press the {HD-DIR} Soft Key to display a list of the Programs in the data server Flash memory
D Key in the Program Name or File Number
E. Press the {F-DEL} Soft Key
F. Press the (EXEC} Soft Key

NOTES:
In this KEC the terms Read & Punch, refer to, to and from the Standard NC Program memory
Read : Means to receive a file from the Data Server memory (Storage) or PC’s Hard Drive. (FTP)
Punch : Means to send a file to the Data Server memory (Storage) or PC’s Hard Drive (FTP)

Data Server Modes


Storage = Read & punch to and from the Data Server Flash memory
FTP = Read & Punch to and from a PC’s Hard Drive

{READ}
4. Receive a file in the Standard Program Memory Area from the Data Server Flash Memory or PC

A. Set the Data Server mode to Storage or FTP (see #6 Page 5)

B. Press [PROGRAM] Hard Key

C. Press {PROGRAM} Soft Key

D. Press the {OPRT} Soft Key

E. Press the {>} Soft Key one (1) time until {READ} shows on the Soft Keys

F. Press the {READ} Soft Key

G. Key in the Program Number (Example O1234)

H. Press the {EXEC} Soft Key

{PUNCH}
5. Send a file from the Standard Program Memory Area to the Data Server Flash memory or PC
A. Set the Data Server mode to Storage or FTP (see #6 Page 5)
B. Press [PROGRAM] Hard Key
C Press {PROGRAM} Soft Key
D. Press the {OPRT} Soft Key
E. Press the {>} Soft Key one (1) time until {PUNCH} shows on the Soft Keys
F. Press the {PUNCH} Soft Key
G Key in the Program Number (Example O1234)
H. Press the {EXEC} Soft Key

DNC DIRECT IN FTP MODE
1. Run Programs DIRECT from the A PC’s Hard Drive In Tape mode

A. Set the Data Server mode to FTP (See #6 Page 5)

B. Set Mode selector to TAPE

C. Press [Program] Hard Key

D Press the {>} Soft Key two (2) times until {HD-DIR} {HOST} {CONECT} shows on the Soft Keys

E. Press the {HOST} Soft Key this will display a list of the Program’s in the directory on the PC’s
Hard drive that is set up in the parameters (See #5 on page 5 )

F. Press the {OPRT} Soft Key

G. Press the {DNC-ST} Soft Key

H. Key in the Program Number

I. Press {EXEC} Soft Key (This will cause the Program number to be displayed at the top of the
screen as DNC FILE NAME XXXX where the XXXX = the file name to be run )

J. Press [Cycle Start] to run the selected Program

DNC AS A SUB IN FTP MODE

2. Run Programs from the A PC’s Hard Drive as a sub Program with M198

A. Set the Data Server mode to FTP (See #6 Page 5)

B. You can call any NC Program that is stored in the directory on a PC’s Hard Drive

C. Check that the proper directory set up in the ETHPRM setting screen (See #3 line N Page 4)

D In your main Program you call any NC Program as a sub Program with the special M198
Command The format is the same as the standard M98 Macro call. M198 Pxxxx .The xxxx
is the four (4) digits Number following the O of the Program Number

E. Note: You can still call a sub Program from the standard memory with the standard M98

DNC DIRECT IN STORAGE MODE
3. Run Programs direct from the DATA SERVER FLASH MEMORY In Tape mode

A. Set the Data Server mode to STORAGE (See #6 Page 5)

B. Set Mode Selector to TAPE

C. Press [PROGRAM] Hard Key

D. Press the {>} Soft Key two (2) times until {HD-DIR} {HOST} {CONECT} shows on the Soft Keys
E. Press the {HD-DIR} Soft Key this will display a list of the Programs on the Data Sever

F. Press the {OPRT} Soft Key until {DNC-ST} shows on the Soft Keys.

G. Press the {DNC-ST} Soft Key.

H. Key in the Program number.

I. Press {EXEC} Soft Key (This will cause the Program Number to be displayed at the top of the
screen as DNC FILE NAME XXXX where the XXXX = the file name to be run )

J. Press Cycle start to run the selected program.

DNC AS SUB IN STORAGE MODE


4. Run Programs stored on the Data Server Flash Memory as a sub Program with M198
A. Set the Data Server mode to Storage (See #6 Page 5)

B. You can call any Program that is stored in the Data Server Flash Memory

C In your Program you call any Program as a sub Program with the special M198 command
The format is the same as the standard M98 Macro call. M198 Pxxxx .The xxxx is the four
digit Number following the O of the Program Number

D. Note: You can still call a sub Program from the standard memory with the standard M98

DNC DIRECT FROM MEMORY CARD
5.2 DNC--Running a programs DIRECT from the MEMORY CARD

(1) Check Parameter 138 bit 7 =1

(2) Check that the I/O is set to 4 (See 2 on page 2)

(3) Set Mode Switch to TAPE

(4) Press {>} Soft Key 2 times to display {DNC-CD} Soft Key
NOTE: The soft key {DNC-CD} will only show if parameter 178.7 is 1 and the mode switch
is in MEMORY or TAPE position

(5) Press {DNC-CD} Soft Key this will display the directory of the Memory Card

(6) Press [] Page down key if your file is not showing

(7) Key in the File No, Not the Program number

(8) Press the {DNC-CD} Soft Key

(9) Press the [Cycle Start] Hard Key Program will display in screen and run

DNC AS A SUM FROM MEMORY CARD


5.2 DNC— Run Programs stored on the MEMORY CARD as a SUB PROGRAM with M198

(1) Check Parameter 138 bit 7 =1

(2) Check Parameter 3404 bit 2 If set to 1 the P Address in M198 will Indicate A Program number
If set to 0 the P Address in M198 will Indicate A File number

(3) Check that the I/O is set to 4 (See 2 on page 2)

(4) In the main Program, use M198 to call a sub program from the Memory card

(5) Main Program Example

INPUT/OUTPUT USING FANUC 16I MEMORY CARD
6.1 DISPLAYING MEMORY CARD DIRECTORY

(1) Place machines rotary switch to EDIT mode

(2) Edit Key must be turned to Write

(3) Insert Memory Card

(4) Press [PROG] hard key

(5) Press {>} soft key

(6) Press {CARD} soft key (this will display the M-Card Directory)

6.2 DOWN LOADING NC PROGRAM FROM MEMORY-CARD TO MACHINE

(1) Check that the I/O is set to 4 (See 2 on page 2)

(2) Go To, the M-Card directory (See 6.1 Above)

(3) Press {OPRT} soft key

(4) Press {N-READ} soft key

(5) Type name of the file on the M-CARD you wish to down load to the machine
Then press {F-NAME} soft key

(6) Type the program # you want the program to be called in the machine
You must follow standard Fanuc program numbering system
Example: if you want the program to be called 01234
Type “1234” then press {O-SET} soft key. Note : do not put an O or an error will occur.

(7) Press {EXEC} soft key


Your program from the M-CARD should be loaded in the machine.

Note: step (6) is not necessary


(A) If the file on the M-CARD has O#’s already, and you wish to use this number
(B) If the file contains multiple programs the machine will default

6.3 UP LOADING NC PROGRAM FROM MACHINE TO MEMORY-CARD

(1) Check that the I/O is set to 4 (See 2 on page 2)

(2) Go To, the M-Card directory (See 6.1 Above)

(3) Press {OPRT} soft key

(4) Press {PUNCH} soft key

(5) Type a name for the file you wish to save to the M-CARD
Examples: “Ncprog.nc” or “Ncprog.txt” or “Ncprog” or “1234”
Then press {F-NAME} soft key

(6) Type the program number of the program you want loaded on the M-CARD
Example: if you want to save program # O1234 from the machine to the M-CARD
Type only “1234” note: do not put an O or an error will occur.
Note : Multiple programs can be saved as one file on the M-Card by Expressing a range of program
#’s Example : if you want to D/L programs O0055 threw O1234 Type “55,1234”

(7) Press {O-SET} soft key

(8) Press {EXEC} soft key Program should be saved on the M
