Slideshareis a bit like Youtube in that you share content you and others created yourselves but it is focused on sharing presentations and PowerPoint slides to other people in the same field but also to the general public. While originally it was meant to be used to share slides between businesses it is now host to slideshows about entertainment and academic research making it a wide-ranging service.

  Why use SlideShare? Asa researcher it allows you to spread your research in a quick and effective way and receive feedback from the academic community. As a student it allows you to find quality information from experts in the field on a wide variety of academic subjects.

  How to useit There is two things you can do, find presentations to watch and read. The second is to upload something to share with others this involves a bit more work as ill outline below.

  How to searchfor presentations If you have an idea of what you are looking for you can type in a keyword to search for slides like you would on Youtube. Once you find one you are interested in you can click download to have it for a later date this will require making an account or logging into one you have.

  A caveat While likeYoutube there is high quality information on SlideShare there is also less high-quality information so like you would on Youtube treat everything with a healthy scepticism.

  If you don'thave an idea you can click explore and this will bring up different categories click on one and you can have a look through every slideshow that is part of that category to find one that interests you.

  Upload your research Firstcreate an account on the site by entering in an e-mail address and password From there you will see on the top of the screen a yellow button that says upload click on that.

  This takes youto a new screen that looks like this.

  ● On thatscreen drag and drop or select from your computer the powerpoint or video you want to upload and this takes you to this screen

  ● From hereyou can add metadata to make your presentation easily findable by adding a description and tags. You can also make it private that only people you invite can see it.

  ● Press publishand it will be uploaded but you can edit and delete at any time
