Reflection
6.1 Do you think the CAPS document can be used to guide teaching?
-Yes , because it guides teachers the content or curriculum that learners should cover by the
end of each term and requirements a learner needs to achieve a goal.
6.2. How will it help you?
- I believe that the document will help me as I will know what topics to teach and according to which
term and what to assess and what to leave out/ I can say that it gives me guidelines of what to teach
and assess on a grade by grade and subject by subject bases.
6.3what do you think is not so good about it?
-The fact that it is so scheduled and has a daily plan that needs to be followed. What happens when
the letters don’t understand a topic , one would be required to continue with teaching learners as
they would wouldn’t want to fall behind but learners won’t understand anything making the main
goal with regards to curriculum.
6.4
6.4.1 will these guidelines or this information be applicable to all contexts and learners?
- Yes, it will be as the CAPS document covers for learners with teaching problems . Teachers are
required to add different activities and have different methods when addressing learners in order to
ensure that the curriculum reaches all.
6.4.2 Motivate your answer and give example
-The CAPS documents gives teachers detailed guidelines of what to teach and assessed on a grade by
grade and subject by subject basis. The main aim of CAPS is to loosen the administrative burden on
teachers and ensure consistency and guidance for teachers when teaching . The teaching and
learning of the subjects have specific aims, skills , focus and content areas and weighting of content
areas. What we’ve always called Learning Outcomes and Assessment standards in the NCS are now
called Content and Skills in CAPS. Teaching using CAPS covers a range of informal tests that a
teacher can use to assess the process of learning by their students. These may include weekly
quizzes, assignments and experiments . These usually has a major focus on subject matter rather
than personalising learning to fit each student. This fallacy is generalised to fit the general idea that
if something is good for someone then it means that it is good for everybody.
