# STEPS for designing Footing
1. Define Material (Concrete & rebar)
2. Define & Modal footing (define slab property with trial depth 400mm) (Area of footing)
Basic Area of footing = (Service Load *1.1)/ SBC = _____m2 = √ area of footing
3. Define Column
4. Assign Load
Total Load = Service load + column load & backfill (10% of overall load)
Total Load = Service load * 1.1
5. Place the column
6. Define & assign soil sub grade property
Soil subgrade property = SBC / Allowable settlement … (settlement =25mm)
Soil subgrade property = SBC /0.025
7. Define Load Combination
DL+LL (at bottom uncheck ultimate & click service normal), 1.5(DL+LL) (at bottom check),
8. Check for design preference, change to IS 1786, rebar Fe 500. (edit design prefrences)
8. Three checks in Analysis
a) Show deformation (only service load not factored load)
Pass, if value less than 25 mm
(if fail then try to reduce depth or increase area of footing)
b) Soil Pressure (only service load not factored load)
Pass, if, pressure value less than SBC of soil
(if fail then try to increase depth or increase area of footing)
c) Punching shear (concern with Depth of Footing)
Pass, if, value less than 1.
(If fail then try to increase depth of footing)
(Applied Stress ≤ Resisting Stress ) ie ratio should be less than 1.
Check for column location should be interior while checking for punching..
9. Select strip design, Layer A, draw midline & similarly Layer B draw vertical midline
Check for slab strip design,
Check the suitable reinforcement to be provided.

StructSoft
1. Find base reaction from Etabs under service load (DL+LL+SIDL) .
Note: for primary sizes we require service load but for designing we required factored load.
2. Export base reaction from etabs : File -GO to export – Story as SAFE V12.f2K file – Base –
Export floor load plus above load – select load cases to – all – Select load combination – all –
save it as Base Reaction file.
3. Exporting column sizes from etabs to safe:
File- Export- .Dxf/ .DWG File – Column Layout Plan – select floor & object – select Ground
level only – unselect beam, braces, grid, slab & wall Only select column. Also, unselect the
layers grid, beam, brace , wall , slab to none .– generate Dxf Dwg File.
4. Now, open that file & re edit it.. delete all lines.. Only keep Column section nothing
else..then save that file in DXf format. Ok
5. Now Open SAFE, Import, safe,FK File – open that base reaction file saved in SafeF2K format.
Now, only grids will be visible ..
6. Go to set display option – unselect Horizon option & uncheck, invisible Ok.
7. Go to edit, edit grid data – modify – modify show grid system – hide all grid lines Ok.
8. Go to view , off the axes.
9. Go to extreme right bottom “Unit” ..change it to Metric Default.
10. Now for ensuring the loads are imported correct or not ..Go to
11. Undeform the shape.
12. Go to import – dxf file- Area as COLS, unit – mm (check it in ur cad file)
1. Checks : 1. Upward soil pressure should be greater than SBC …otherwise increase the size of
footing.
2. Checks : 2. Check for Selttlement :
3.
