GUIDELINES FOR ALMA

I. ACADEMICS
VENUE: New Building

A. SPELLING

1. A word is read and pronounced carefully; then the same word is used in a sentence and
finally pronounced again carefully.
2. The words must be spelled according to how they are used in the illustrating sentences.
In case of doubt, Webster International Dictionary shall be used to resolve the question
3. Contestants (2; one SHS, one JHS) are given only ten (10) seconds to write the answer
after the word has been read twice. A bell or buzzer will indicate exactly the end of ten
seconds.
4. Answers will be checked and reviewed by the Test Master every after test item is given
for final announcement.
5. The contest will be conducted in three (3) sets: the EASY, AVERAGE and DIFFICULT
rounds. It is a TEAM-OF-2 competition. There will be ten words in each set.

B. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. The question is read carefully and slowly. A hint may be given. Then, the same question
is read again slowly and clearly for the last time.
2. The contestants are given only 10 seconds to answer the EASY question (1st set); 15
seconds for the AVERAGE questions (2nd set) and 20 seconds for the DIFFICULT
questions (final set). More time may be allotted, but it will be specifically announced by
the QUIZ Master before the question (s) is given. A bell or buzzer will indicate exactly
the end of the time allowed per question.
3. Questions will be taken from all subject areas and other fields of interests, to wit:
English Grammar Sciences Mathematics History
Current Events & Trivia Sports Info Technology Personalities
4. When a question asks for the name of a person, the family name shall suffice except
when the full name is specifically asked for.
5. WRONG SPELLING, WRONG ANSWER
6. The contest will be conducted in three (3) sets: the EASY (Bohol), AVERAGE (Philippines)
and DIFFICULT (WORLD) rounds. It is a TEAM-OF-3 competition.
7. Answer will be checked every after test item is given. The answer(s) and score(s) are
checked and reviewed by the Quiz Master for proper announcement.
8. As additional input, the Quiz Master may read any accompanying annotation to a
particular item/question.

C. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION QUIZ


1. The first question is read carefully and slowly. A hint may be given. Then the same
question is read again slowly and clearly for the last time.
2. The contestants are given only 10 seconds to write the answer after the last word of the
question has been read. A bell or buzzer will be rang to indicate the end of ten (10)
seconds.
3. Questions shall be taken from religious books containing topics of general interest,
Catechism, Bol-anon program, and the Bible.
4. When the question asks for a name of a person, the family name shall suffice except
when the full name is specifically asked for.
5. Wrong spelling shall be considered wrong.
6. The answers and scores are checked by the coaches and given to the Test Master for
final checking and proper announcement.
7. This competition should be comprised of 3 contestants (JHS & SHS) per team.
8. Questions/test items shall be categorized as:
Set I – Easy (10 items)

Set II – Average (10 items)


Set III – Difficult (10 items)

D. ESSAY WRITING CONTEST


1. This competition should be comprised of 2 contestants (1 JHS & 1 SHS) per team.
2. Contest medium shall be the English language.
3. The essay must revolve on the theme which will be provided on the spot (at the contest
venue) before the start of the contest.
4. The composition must not exceed five hundred (500) words.
5. Time limit is one (1) hour.
6. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
II. LITERARY
VENUE: AVR

A. DECLAMATION
1. Only one (1) contestant from each team is required.
2. Any dignified piece will do.
3. The delivery must not exceed four (4) minutes. Thirty (30) seconds before the
end of the time limit, a warning bell is given. One percent (1%) of the total score
shall be subtracted for every (5) seconds exceeding the time limit.
4. The contestant shall come in any decent and proper attire.
5. Only one (1) contestant from each team is required.
6. Ranking system shall be used in determining the winners.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
8. No accessories, paraphernalia, or props allowed.

B. TULA
1. Only one (1) contestant from each team is required.
2. It must be pure poetry; not prose.
3. Delivery must not exceed six (6) minutes. Thirty (30) seconds before the end of
the time limit, a warning bell is given. One percent (1%) of the total score shall
be subtracted for every (5) seconds exceeding the time limit.
4. Male contestants should wear Barong Tagalog or Polo Barong and female
contestants shall wear any Filipiniana dress.
5. Ranking system shall be used in determining the winners.
6. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

C. BALAK
1. Only one (1) contestant from each team is required.
2. Any piece in Cebuano dialect will do.
3. The delivery must not exceed four (4) minutes. Thirty (30) seconds before the
end of the time limit, a warning bell is given. One percent (1%) of the total score
shall be subtracted for every (5) seconds exceeding the time limit.
4. Male contestants should wear Barong Tagalog or Polo Barong and female
contestants shall wear any Filipiniana dress.
5. The piece can be delivered with or without musical accompaniment and/or
background music. If there is, the accompaniment must be properly and
accurately used.
6. Ranking system shall be used in determining the winners.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
III. MUSICAL
VENUE: AVR

A. VOCAL SOLO
1. Only one (1) contestant from each team is required.
2. The song can be any local or foreign song but it should be up to the Catholic
standards of morality.
3. There shall be no set time limit.
4. The accompaniment should be a Minus One tape/CD that must be properly and
accurately cued, and preferably with back-up vocals.
5. The contestant shall come in any decent and proper attire.
6. Ranking system shall be used in determining the winners.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

B. VOCAL DUET
1. Only one (1) contestant from each team is required.
2. The song can be any local or foreign song but it should be up to the Catholic
standards of morality.
3. There shall be no set time limit.
4. The contestant shall come in any decent and proper attire.
5. Ranking system shall be used in determining the winners.
6. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

C. GUITAR SOLO
1. The piece must not exceed four (4) minutes. Thirty (30) seconds before the end
of the time limit, a warning bell is given. One percent (1%) of the total score shall
be subtracted for every (5) seconds exceeding the time limit.
2. The instrument to be used shall be Philippine-made guitars, non-electric, and
with five or six strings.
3. No any other accompaniment shall be used.
4. Contestants shall wear traditional Filipino formal attire dress.
5. Ranking system shall be used in determining the winners.
6. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
III. POSTER MAKING CONTEST
VENUE:

1. This competition should be comprised of 2 contestants (1 JHS & 1 SHS) per team.
2. The contest medium is Oil Pastel.
3. Artworks should be rendered neatly on a 1/4 sheet of illustration board.
4. The competition is on-the-spot and should revolve around the theme to be given at the
start of the contest.
5. The maximum time limit is two (2) hours.
6. All artworks should bear the following information: Artist contest number, brief/short
description of his/her own work to be indicated at the back of his/her illustration board.
7. There must be no coaches in the contest area within the duration of the competition.
8. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
