ESSAY WRITING CONTEST (Individual Event)

1. One (1) Elementary and one (1) Junior High School (JHS) contestant per division shall
be eligible to join the contest.
2. The contestant must be officially enrolled and registered in the official entry form.
3. The essay should focus on the theme that will be announced during the contest.
4. The essay must be written in Filipino for Elementary and English for JHS on a yellow
pad paper provided by the organizer with a 1-inch margin on all sides.
5. The essay shall be cursive or sentence case written legibly in either black or blue
ink only. The use of a pencil is not allowed.
6. The contestants will be given one (1) hour to complete their essay. Once the contest
has officially started, they will not be allowed to leave the venue. A minimum of 300
words and a maximum of 500 words are required.
7. Each entry shall be identified by a number corresponding to the contestants' number
and identification.

SPELLING CONTEST (Individual Event)

1. One (1) Elementary and one (1) Junior High School contestant per division shall
participate in the contest. The contestant must be officially enrolled and registered in
the official entry form.
2. No coaches are allowed to stay in the contest room.
3. Each division shall provide three (3) words to be spelled and it must be categorized
into easy, average, and difficult rounds. For the Elementary category the medium
shall be Filipino, and for the JHS the medium shall be English. Words shall be written
in a provided template which will be given before the contest proper. Each word must
have a meaning that must be used in a sentence and should be found in the existing
ALS modules. However, if the chosen word is considered obsolete as per DO No. 24,
s. 2013, Ortograpiya sa Wikang Filipino as written in the Manwal sa Masinop na
Pagsulat (2015), the latest spelling shall be used. (eg. Miyerkules-Miyerkoles,
kuryente – koryente).
4. The spelling master shall read twice each word. The contestants shall only answer as
soon as the spelling-master signals the time to write the word. No request or question
from the contestants shall be entertained during this reading of each word.
5. Contestants shall be given a maximum of ten (10) seconds to write the word.
6. The management shall provide a slate board, whiteboard marker and eraser to every
contestant.
7. Contestants are allowed to change their answers within the allotted time for each
question.
8. Contestants must raise their whiteboard marker as soon as the allotted time to
answer is over.
9. The top three contestants who accumulated the most points for all three (3)
categories shall be declared the first, second, and third placers, respectively.
10. The chairman shall emphasize the guidelines before the contest proper as well as the
validation of submitted words. If found not following the said guidelines, it will be
automatically disqualified.
11. If in case of tie, the management shall give the tie-breaking word.
SLOGAN MAKING CONTEST (Individual Event)
1. One (1) Elementary and one (1) Junior High School (JHS) contestant per division shall
be eligible to join the contest. The contestant must be officially enrolled and
registered in the official entry form.
2. The slogan must have a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) words.
3. Filipino is the medium to be used. It must be written in ¼ sized white cartolina that
shall be provided by the host division.
4. The slogan should revolve around the theme which will be announced by the contest
administrator during the contest proper.
5. The allotted time to prepare the slogan is 30 minutes. All entries shall be submitted
to the contest administrator. A contestant may decide to submit his/her slogan earlier
than the allotted time.
6. The contestant should read and explain the slogan in five (5) minutes after all
contestants have completed the allotted time.
7. Each slogan will be assigned a number corresponding to the contestant's identity for
the judging process.

ON THE SPOT-POSTER-MAKING CONTEST (Individual Event)

1. One (1) Elementary and one (1) Junior High School (JHS) contestant per division shall
be eligible to join the contest. Contestants must be officially enrolled and registered
in the official entry form.

2. The poster should revolve around the theme which will be announced by the contest
administrator during the contest proper.

3. The medium for visual artistry shall be three (3) primary colors (red, blue, yellow)
plus black and white oil pastel to be drawn on ¼ size white illustration board for
Elementary Level and ½ size illustration board for Junior High School Level however
only the illustration boards will be provided by the organizer.
4. The allotted time for the contest is two (2) hours. All entries shall be submitted to the
contest secretariat. The contestant may decide to submit his/her poster earlier
without waiting for the allotted time of two hours.
5. Each poster shall be identified by a number that corresponds to the name and
identification of the contestant for the judging process.
6. Judging shall be based on the following criteria.

ANAGRAM ENGLISH (Individual Event)

1. One (1) Elementary and one (1) Junior High School (JHS) contestant per division shall be
eligible to join the contest.

1. Contestants must be officially enrolled and registered in the official entry form.
2. Each entry shall be identified by a number that will correspond to the identity of the
contestants.
3. Each division will provide one (1) word that shall be written in a provided template.
4. Each contestant shall form as many words as they can from the given word to be written
on a yellow pad paper. The yellow pad paper and ballpen shall be provided by the host
division.
5. Words to be formed must have correct spelling and meaning.
6. The contest administrator shall draw 5 words from all the submitted words as the official
words for the anagram.
7. The time allotment will be given depending on the difficulty of the word which will gain
the following points:
three (3) letter word = 1 point
four (4) letter word = 2 points
five (5) letter word = 3 points
six (6) letter word = 4 points
8. The winner will be determined by the number of points earned per word.

ALS QUIZ (Team Event)

1. The contestants are composed of 3 members (1 Elem; 2 JHS) with one coach only must be
officially enrolled in the LIS and registered in the official entry form.
2. English shall be used as the official language in the conduct of the quiz.
1. Questions shall cover basic environmental facts, concepts, laws, current events,
initiatives, and other relevant topics such as environment, climate change, disaster risk
reduction, numeracy, and from the Life Skills Modules.
2. The coach will prepare and submit one (1) easy question (True or False); one (1)
average question (multiple-choice with three options); and one (1) difficult
question (simple recall with no options). This also includes all the materials
needed such as ¼ illustration board and/or small size whiteboard, chalk,
marker, and an eraser for each representing division.
3. Each question shall have its answer and its reference and page number,
encoded in ¼ sheet lengthwise of A4 bond paper.
4. The quiz master shall draw 10 questions for each category from all the submitted
questions as the official questions for the quiz.
Scoring will be as follows:
1 point-easy
2 points- average
3 points- difficult round

5. The quiz master will read each question twice, and the contestant may respond only after
the question has been read and the time for writing the answer has been indicated. The
countdown begins immediately afterward.

6. The contestants will have five (5) seconds for easy questions, ten (10) seconds for
average questions, and fifteen (15) seconds for difficult questions.
7. The contestant shall write their answers on their respective drill board. The contestants
shall be allowed to change their answers within the allotted time for each question. No
queries from the contestants shall be allowed that may disrupt the conduct of the quiz.

8. The contestant shall raise their drill boards as soon as the allotted time to answer
is over.
9. In case of a tie, a tiebreaker question shall be asked until a winner is declared.
10. The top three teams that accumulate the most points after 30 questions shall be
declared the First, Second, and Third placers respectively.

FEATURE WRITING (ALS SHS Learner’s Category)

1. The contestant must be One (1) ALS Senior High School (SHS) officially enrolled and
registered in the official entry form with 1 coach only.
2. The topic/theme will be given by the Regional Office and will be revealed during the
contest proper.
3. It must be written in English, on a yellow pad paper provided by the organizers with
one (1) inch margin on all sides.
4. It shall be written legibly in black or blue ink only. Pencil is not allowed.
5. Contestants will be given one (1) hour to complete their output. They shall not be
allowed to leave the contest venue once the contest has officially started. A
minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 500 words are required.

PHOTOJOURNALISM (ALS SHS Learner’s Category)

The contestant must be One (1) ALS Senior High School (SHS) officially enrolled and
registered in the official entry form with 1 coach only.

Mechanics

a. Preparation
1. Contestants should be at the contest venue thirty (30) minutes before the orientation
on the guidelines and rubrics.
2. The contestants will be allowed to use a point-and-shoot, compact camera or a DSLR
camera, with an 18-55 mm (standard) lens. A mirrorless camera is not allowed.
3. The contestant should bring his/her camera cable to upload and save pictures.
4. Cellular phones, extra digital cameras, extra storage cards, or any additional materials/
equipment are not allowed in the contest area.
5. Contestants shall bring their black ink ballpens while the RTWG will provide scratch
papers where contestants can write down notes during the shooting.
b. Provision for Memory Card
The contestants shall load the empty storage card in front of the facilitator on the
contest day.
c. Photo Shoot, Uploading, and Captioning
1. The loading and unloading of the storage card will be done in front of the facilitator.
2. The control shot shall be the first shot.
3. Contestants are given one (1) hour to take pictures.
4. Contestants are allowed to take unlimited shots but will submit only soft copies of the
five (5) possible photos for the given theme, together with the control shot.
5. Caption sheets will be provided by the TWG.
6. Write the file name of each photo in the caption sheet.
7. Contestants will be given 30 minutes to write captions for each of the five (5) photos.
8. Once done, the contestant will submit soft copies of the contest photos the control
shot, and the hard copy of the caption sheet.
9. Throughout the competition, the adviser, trainers, and parents are NOT allowed in the
venue.

Presents images with acceptable sharpness

Communicative Quality (40%)


Shows clear and specific idea(s) or angle connected to the theme topic
Uses creative photography techniques to highlight the visual story

Caption (10%)
Writes a two-sentence caption providing context to the picture

Ethics (10%)
Showcases original works of students
Properly cites information and attributes these facts from the source of information (cuts
across all events)
Observes standards accuracy, and balance of journalism in terms of fairness, relevance,
accuracy, and balance
Has no potentially libelous or obscene content, plagiarism, or
copyright violations
Follows strict standards of no manipulation and alteration of reality
