Image and Audio File Size Calculations

The document outlines calculations for estimating file sizes of images and audio tracks. It includes examples of calculating file sizes for a photograph with specific resolutions and color representations, as well as determining the storage requirements for a music track based on sampling rates. The calculations involve converting pixel dimensions and audio sampling rates into bytes and megabytes.

1. The company takes a photograph of their office to put on the website. The photograph has
a resolution of 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels. Two bytes per pixel are used to represent the
colours.

2 The following information refers to a music track being recorded on a CD:

• music is sampled 44 100 times per second

• each sample is 16 bits
• each track requires sampling for left and right speakers
