Introduction
Internships are an important part of academic programs, as they provide students
with practical exposure to the professional environment. They help bridge the gap
between classroom learning and real-world applications.
As a student of Banking and Finance, I was fortunate to complete my internship at
Bank Islami, one of Pakistan’s leading Islamic banks. The main objective of my
internship was to gain professional exposure, understand Islamic banking practices,
and develop my skills in customer interaction, data management, and observation
of operational processes.
The duration of my internship was one month (27th July – 22nd August). Although I
was not assigned to a specific department, I had the chance to learn from different
areas of the bank. This provided me with a broader understanding of how various
departments work together to provide seamless banking services.

Objectives of the Internship

The objectives of my internship were as follows:
 Personal Objectives
 To improve my communication and interpersonal skills.
 To develop self-confidence and professionalism.
 Academic Objectives
 To apply the concepts learned in my Banking and Finance program.
 To observe how Islamic banking differs from conventional banking.
 Professional Objectives
 To gain practical knowledge of banking procedures.
 To understand how customers are dealt with in a real business
environment.
 To develop knowledge that will help me in my career as a finance
professional.

Organizational Structure:
The bank operates under a Board of Directors with guidance from a Shariah

Operations, IT, and Human Resources work together to provide services to
customers.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

During my internship, I performed and observed the following tasks:
1. Data Entry:
I was responsible for entering customer information in files. Accuracy and
confidentiality were very important in this task.
2. Customer Dealing:
I interacted with customers, guided them to the right counters, and answered
simple queries. This helped me understand the importance of communication and
patience in the banking sector.
3. Learning Banking Operations:
I observed the account opening process, cheque handling, and daily banking
transactions. Although I was not directly handling all tasks, I carefully noted how
employees managed them.
4. General Observation:

smooth operations at the bank.

5. Learning to Operate CCDM:

I was introduced to the Cash & Cheque Deposit Machine (CCDM). This modern
banking technology allows customers to deposit cash directly into their accounts
and also encash cheques through the machine. I learned the step-by-step procedure
of how the machine functions, how customers are guided to use it, and how the
bank staff monitors its smooth functioning.
6. Learning about One Touch Banking:
I also gained knowledge of Bank Islami’s “One Touch Banking” feature. This
innovative service allows customers to perform secure transactions (such as cash
withdrawals, fund transfers) using biometric verification instead of traditional ATM
cards or PINs. I observed how customers could access multiple services with just
their thumb impression, making banking easier and safer. This feature reflects Bank
Islami’s commitment to Shariah-compliant innovation and convenience.

The internship provided me with several learning opportunities, such as:
Professional Skills
 Improved communication and interpersonal skills.
 Developed confidence while dealing with customers.
Technical Skills
 Familiarity with banking procedures and customer handling.

Challenges Faced
Although the internship was a great experience, I faced some challenges:
 Difficult to adjust in long working hours.

To overcome these challenges, I observed my colleagues, asked for guidance when
needed, and gradually became more confident in performing my tasks.
