The coaching and mentoring session has given me insights into ethical
teaching practice from a Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers vantage
point. The session stressed the importance of professional dealings with
students, colleagues, and public. It said that making ethical decisions was
important to bring fairness and inclusivity into a classroom. The essential
points from the session included the critical role that mentorship and
collaboration can play in refining teaching practice and responding
effectively to challenges. Reflection on the Coaching and Mentoring
Session In my opinion, the participation in this coaching and mentoring
session was very helpful. I learned some ethical teaching techniques from
there. This can be seen in how teachers respond to criticism. Is it taken
defensively, so as not to be blamed or asked questions about the
practice? Is the teacher genuinely interested in the questions he is being
asked, and can he bring himself into line with them? There were also
many opportunities to network with professional colleagues. Attending
the International Medical Graduate Orientation Program saw three new
friends made on the first day alone. What professional doors will open
from this meeting? I engaged in some Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions
and found these to be an excellent way for professional growth. I learned
from the collective wisdom of my peers and best practices in the industry.
Notes about challenges facing education . While valuable, LAC sessions
and discussions with colleagues are not without some difficulties. One of
the problems is how to extend ethical standards consistently across
different classrooms, whether in teacher-student interactions or problems
arising from the classroom. There are guidelines for handling LAC which
are unclear and difficult to understand; they give rise to arbitrary
judgement on what should take place. On how to deal with such
situations in the future, I will try to attend more continuous education
programs about ethics so that my sense of fairness becomes even
clearer. I should also employ transparent grading standards and student
feedback within my courses, and engage in LAC consistently through
scheduled sessions as well as Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). the
Session has been a most rewarding one; it has strengthened my resolve
to adhere to ethical standards in teaching and Teacher Reflection on my
own methods continually must enable me provide a learning experience
fair to every student, and continue make this enterprise more egalitarian
as a whole.
