Get Started
1. What do you like to do on your phone or tablet?
2. How do you feel after using your phone for a long
time?
3. Do you think using phones too much could be bad
for your health? Why or why not?
4. Have you ever had trouble focusing on your
homework or sleep because of using a phone?
5. Why do you think it’s important to take breaks
from screens like phones and computers?
"Ben and the Lost Focus"
Ben loved his smartphone. Every day after school, he
would spend hours playing games, watching videos,
and chatting with friends. His parents were concerned
but thought it was harmless fun. Soon, Ben started
carrying his phone to school and even played games
during class breaks. One day, his teacher noticed that
he was falling behind in his studies.
His once stellar grades were slipping. When exam time came,
Ben was unprepared and even tried using his phone to cheat.
This only made things worse, as he was caught and faced
serious consequences. Ben learned a hard lesson—his
phone, once a fun distraction, had now disrupted his focus
and academics. With the help of his parents, Ben set strict
screen-time limits and rediscovered his passion for learning,
proving that balance is the key to success.
"Ella’s Invisible Bullies"
Ella was a shy, sweet girl who enjoyed using her
smartphone to stay connected with friends online. But
as time went by, strange messages started popping up
on her social media. Anonymous users began posting
mean comments about her looks and personality. The
bullying made her feel small and anxious.
She kept it all to herself, too scared to tell her parents
or teachers. Eventually, it made Ella feel isolated. One
day, she finally broke down and shared her
experience with her parents. They turned off her
social media for a while. Ella realized that while her
phone could connect her to the world, it also opened
the door to harm if not used wisely.
"Jade and the Midnight Adventures"
Jade loved staying up late with her phone under the
covers, scrolling through videos and chatting with
friends. She thought no one noticed. But as the days
went by, Jade found herself more tired in class, unable
to concentrate or remember what she learned. Her
grades dropped, and her mood worsened.
Her parents didn’t understand why she seemed so
grumpy all the time. One night, Jade fell asleep with
her phone in hand, and her mom finally caught on.
After a long talk, Jade agreed to set her phone aside at
night. Slowly, her sleep improved, her energy returned,
and so did her focus in school. Jade learned that her
midnight phone adventures weren’t worth the fatigue
they caused.

Harmful Effects of
Using Mobile Phones
on Children
Children all over the world use smartphones for
various purposes like talking to their friends for
long hours, and playing games. The internet is
an abode of knowledge for children. It can help
them gain knowledge about a variety of topics
and also aid them in research for projects.
However, continued use and exposure can have
harmful effects on the child.
1. Affects the Brain

Phones use special frequencies and

waves to work, and there’s a chance
these waves could affect the brain.
Also, too much time staring at
screens or playing certain games
can make it hard to focus on
learning.
2. Bad Grades

Chatting with friends or playing

games is increasing day-by-day.
This results in children failing to
concentrate and consequently,
being clueless about studies and
examinations.
3. Sleep Disruption

Children stay up late talking to friends,

playing games, or scrolling through
social media, which over a period of
time, develops problems like
insomnia. It delays their regular
sleeping pattern because they are
unaware of the proper time to go to
sleep .
4. Medical Issues

Children glued to the mobile

phone during their free time,
don’t partake in physical activity
and get fresh air. This puts them
at risk for obesity and other
illnesses, which can later
develop into harmful diseases
such as diabetes
and hypertension.
5. Mental Health Troubles

Sometimes, kids are bullied

online, which can make them
feel sad or scared. Social media
can also make kids anxious if
they don’t get enough attention.
6. Poor Social Skills

A child who sees the world in

his mobile phone might
choose to isolate himself
from friends and family,
rather than making new
friends or talking to others.
7. Bad Posture

Some children may sit with their shoulders hunched

and head bent, staring at their phones for hours.
This leads to pain in the shoulders, back, neck, and
more, in the long run. The bones of children are still
developing, so if a child keeps head down or sits in a
bad posture for long hours, there is a great chance
they will develop problems with spine or neck.
8. Weakening of the
Eyes
The eyes of the children are focused on the cell
phone for long hours. It is certain that his or her
eyesight will be weak at an early age. That is
because of the eye strain that happens every time
when the eyes try to adjust to the lights coming from
the screen. Sometimes children are so focused that
they forget to blink their eyes leading to the dryness
of the cornea.
How to Stay Safe with Phones

1. Don’t give kids under 16 a phone unless necessary.

2. Set rules for phone time to make sure it doesn’t take over other
activities like studying or playing outside.
3. Parents should keep phones away from kids at night and use
parental controls to make sure they only see appropriate content.
4. By using phones in moderation, kids can stay safe and healthy
while still enjoying the benefits of technology.
