INTRODUCTION

Hello, my name is Duy, I'm from class 11E2.2 and today I'm standing here to tell you guys about
the changes in habits, lifestyle since I first owned smartphones. This is such a fantastic topic to
be discussed. So, first, I wanna talk about the advantages of using smartphones and how this
type of device helps me in activities such as studying, entertaining, dealing with some of my daily
life’s problems, and so on. In short, I’m gonna tell and explain how smartphones make life for me
and my peers become more convenient today, in comparison with that in the past. However,
everything has two sides; therefore, after finishing with the positive side of smartphones I will
then move to the opposite side of it, discussing and sharing how smartphones have affected my
life, my habits adversely. The purpose that made me desire to give this speech is to recap my life
and how it has changed several years now within the emergence of the frequent use of
smartphone habit. Hence, I also will define the core problems of the situation and then provide
some appropriate solutions to solve.

BODY (3-4 Main Points)

First, let's talk about the benefits that smartphones have brought to our society. Since its
appearance until now, smartphones have revolutionized the way we live and work. They have
become an integral part of our daily lives, providing us with a wealth of information at our
fingertips. With a smartphone, people can easily access educational resources, communicate
with friends and family, manage schedules, and even shop online. The convenience and
efficiency provided by smartphones are unparalleled. Now let's go back to the past. I will show
you how inconvenient I felt in life when I was not allowed to own a phone. Have you ever found it
difficult to move without carrying a phone? I would answer yes. The story is that when I was in
middle school, I often had to move a lot when it wasn't school hours. At that time, I attended a lot
of extra classes and went out a lot with friends, all of which were places far from my home.
Almost every time I moved to such places, I had to go alone, partly because my parents thought I
was grown up and partly because they were so busy that they didn't always have time to pick me
up. And so my commute depended almost entirely on public transportation and mainly taxis. It
wouldn't matter if everything went well. At that stage, I often had to wait for my mother to call a
taxi to pick me up after extra classes or after meetings between me and friends ended. And I
have experienced many times having to wait patiently for a taxi to come and return home quite
late. The reason is because many times my mother forgot to book a car for me or booked it late
and partly because there were too many times I couldn't contact the driver directly to guide them
to avoid going the wrong way. But I was forced into a passive position most of those times,
unable to do anything but wait. Maybe many of you will feel that what I just shared is quite
nonsense. But really, if you put yourself in my position at that time, when I was just a boy about
12 to 13 years old - still immature and not yet having many life skills - things were really difficult.
So when I was allowed to own my own smartphone, I really appreciated it even though it was a
quite old smartphone compared to that time and often lagged. At that moment I truly realized that
I could go anywhere without bothering my parents. Holding a smartphone in my hand, I can book
my own trips to places I often visit and pay via electronic card at any time and place. At the same
time, I also feel that having a smartphone is like having a companion when I get lost.

However, contrary to the previous things, using smartphones has also made my life
have negative changes. The first thing is that it negatively affects my ability to
absorb academic knowledge. Since I started using my first smartphone, I promised
and told myself that the device would help me a lot with my studies, things related
to academics. But when I actually got a smartphone, I realized that just by having a
computer, my own learning would be greatly supported. I have been allowed to use
computers since I was a child for my studies and it is really effective when my
studies and entertainment are balanced. So, I mean, ever since I started using a
smartphone, my studies have gradually been affected. Almost every time I leave my
phone on my desk, I get distracted by notifications from messages from chat groups
or from chat groups. Furthermore, there are many times when I promise myself that
I will only use my phone for entertainment for a while, but then I seem to forget that
I have tasks to do and am completely immersed in posts on websites that will help
me. socialize or get stuck in fascinating games. And there were long periods when I
was constantly distracted from studying just because I kept my phone next to my
work area. If anyone wonders that computers are also electronic devices, have an
internet connection and are also capable of providing entertainment services, but I
only emphasize that the phone distracts me so much? Because for me, the
computer's work performance is much higher, and the software and websites serving
academic purposes are also better and more diverse. And compared to almost
always having to sit when using a computer, when using a phone you can
comfortably change positions continuously, even lying down, making it difficult for
you to focus on your main work. So compared to the serious and professional feeling
when working that a computer brings, it seems like the smartphone always gives me
the feeling of wanting to entertain or study but with an unfocused attitude. Besides
affecting the acquisition of academic knowledge, uncontrolled smartphone use also
negatively affects my daily lifestyle. Specifically, until now, I still often have the habit
of eating while looking at my phone, taking a bath while looking at my phone, or
even looking at my phone when I go to bed. This has wasted a lot of time that I could
be doing other things. At the same time, my health was also affected when eating
and using the phone contributed to making my stomach pain worse. And staying up
late using the phone also makes me often face physical and mental exhaustion due
to lack of sleep.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the appearance of smartphones is a great step forward for humanity in terms of
social utility as well as in terms of science and technology. For me, the appearance of this device
not only helps satisfy my needs for entertainment, shopping or studying, but most importantly, it
has helped improve and make my daily travel easier. more than ever. But everything has two
sides and so do smartphones. When the smartphone is considered an inseparable object, it
becomes something that must always be with us and that is in the subconscious of everyone in
this era. And because we always carry it with us and are fascinated by it, it is inevitable that it will
interrupt many of our plans. Furthermore, smartphones have also completely changed our
perception of some aspects and many of them are not very good changes. Thank you for
listening !
