BIOL 1012Y –Principles of Biology Lab- Fall 2021

Laboratory objectives:
● To learn the basic language and methods of biology including measurements,
pipetting techniques, dilutions, cell structure, enzyme activity, diffusion,
osmosis and respiration
● To formulate and test and hypothesis and to analyze the obtained results
● To be able to communicate scientific information both orally and in writing
Laboratory Expectations:
● You are expected to attend each lab. If you miss a lab, it is your responsibility
to complete ALL the work.
● Check with your classmates to find out what you have missed
● Students absent from 2 or more lab sessions cannot receive credit for
laboratory.
● It is important that you get to lab on time; you will miss the introduction and
explanations that will precede each lab. It will also affect your participation
grade.
● You cannot eat or drink or in the Laboratory
● You cannot wear loose hair or clothes or open toe shoes in the laboratory.
● You MUST clean up your lab station at the end of each lab session!!

Lab grade breakdown: The lab grade is 30% of your total grade for the course.
