BIOL 1012Y –Principles of Biology Lab- Fall 2021

Friday: 9:30-12:00

Laboratory objectives:

●​ To learn the basic language and methods of biology including measurements,


pipetting techniques, dilutions, cell structure, enzyme activity, diffusion,
osmosis and respiration
●​ To formulate and test and hypothesis and to analyze the obtained results
●​ To be able to communicate scientific information both orally and in writing

Laboratory Expectations:

●​ You are expected to attend each lab. If you miss a lab, it is your responsibility
to complete ALL the work.
●​ Check with your classmates to find out what you have missed
●​ Students absent from 2 or more lab sessions cannot receive credit for
laboratory.
●​ It is important that you get to lab on time; you will miss the introduction and
explanations that will precede each lab. It will also affect your participation
grade.
●​ You cannot eat or drink or in the Laboratory
●​ You cannot wear loose hair or clothes or open toe shoes in the laboratory.
●​ You MUST clean up your lab station at the end of each lab session!!

Lab grade breakdown: The lab grade is 30% of your total grade for the course.
Midterm: 30%

Final: 30%

Homework: 30%

Performance: 10%
