The History of Facebook
Definition of social networks:
What is it? Social networks on the Internet are applications that have as
the object of connecting friends, acquaintances or associates. The networks present
more or less personal or professional orientations, that is to say the objective of the
Users can find friends and share tools with them (photos,
messages, comments, playful applications...) or to establish a professional network
meet potential partners, find a new job, find some
collaborators, announce events or professional activities...). The network the
more well-known is obviously Facebook.

The history of social networks:

The first seed of what can be considered a social network was planted.
This has been several decades. In 1971, the first email was exchanged between two computers.
who were side by side. It was Ray Tomlinson who realized it.
Later, in 1978, a BBS (Bulletin Board System) was exchanged with others
users via telephone lines. The same year, the first versions of the
Internet browsers were distributed on the Usenet platform.
However, it wasn't until 1991 and Tim Berners Lee that the HTML language appeared.
one of the essential elements of the simplification and popularization of navigation
web.
Years later, in 1994, GeoCities, which could be considered one of the
first social networks was launched. The original idea of this space, which was later copied
on Tripod and in Spain on Ciudad Futura, Demasiado.com and Galeón, still active,
was to offer a service for creating simple web pages hosted in certain
quarters based on their content.
A year later, in 1995, TheGlobe.com was born. This social network allowed its
users to customize their online experience by publishing their own content and
interacting with other people who have similar interests. The same year,
Classmates was born: a website that helped people reconnect with their old classmates.
class and colleagues.
Two years later, it was SixDegrees' turn. It was a virtual space that some
considered as the first social network, or at least the one that corresponds best to
the definition of a social network. SixDegrees allowed the creation of profiles
personnel, to invite friends or to view the profiles of other users. However,
All these social networks were far from becoming spaces suited for the Internet, for a
an era dominated by directories such as Yahoo or search engines like
Altavista.
That said, it was in 1997 that Instant Messenger was launched. It was a program for
instant messaging created by Microsoft Windows allowing users to use
elementary chat services and contact lists. One can see it as the
predecessor of one of the most powerful social networks today, the service of
instant messaging WhatsApp.
Stepping into the 21st century, more precisely in 2002, Friendster makes its
apparent, with a very clear objective: to meet new people aside from his
circles of friends. This has established greater trust among users since they
were known by their own friends. Friendster was very successful and recorded
three million users in the first months following its appearance.
A year later, in 2003, the social network was inaugurated that took a new step.
MySpace. This new social network was more interactive than its predecessors. On
MySpace, you could manage a personal profile, photo hosting services,
comments or followers, all of this initially very focused on the groups of
music.

In countries like the United States, many independent groups have used
MySpace to make themselves known, having a more direct and continuous relationship with their
fans. This social network quickly understood that there was an opportunity here, and it encouraged these
practices by offering artists a space where they could promote themselves.
MySpace was primarily spread in the United States, but other services started
to achieve success elsewhere, like Orkut, one of the first attempts at creation
from social networks in Brazil, Hyves in the Netherlands, or Mixi in Japan. Nevertheless, it is
Well, MySpace was the first social network to achieve significant user success, although its ...
this serves as a striking example of how a tool can go from a success
shining to a near-disappearance. A rich example of lessons on the history of
social networks. The advent of social networks such as LinkedIn or Flickr and spaces
like Digg, WordPress or YouTube hinted at an unprecedented earthquake on
Internet. This is how in 2004, one of the largest social networks was created: Facebook.
The characteristics of social networks:
Certain elements define the specificity of social networks, making them different from others: the
Rule of 150, social networking, from the Web to Web 4.0, applications in sciences

Rule of 150: the so-called 'Rule of 150' is also called 'Dunbar's Number', which
support that the size of an original social network is limited to about 150 members. This rule
results from transcultural studies in sociology and more specifically in anthropology on
maximum size of the village;
Social networking: refers to all the means implemented to connect
natural or legal persons among themselves, with the appropriation known as "
Networking service
From the Web to Web 4.0: the emergence of social networks is linked to technological revolutions
and techniques including the application of Ajax technology. On one hand, interactions are more
quickly, consulting has become more comfortable, users are becoming aware of their
the ability to interact on the web. This is Web 2.0 on the other hand. The disadvantages of these
multiple interactions are the disorganization of data, then the concept of
metadata (structuring interactions, this is the semantic web, Web 3.0, and the Web
4.0 would be the synchronization of all web services and technologies;
Applications in social sciences: social network theory is an extremely

social. Technical systems are loosely related to the analysis of social networks and are
focusing on the relationships among individuals, institutions, objects, and technologies.

Definition of facebook:
The site Facebook.com, in third place in the Alexa ranking, proposes to establish a
list of friends then to share various types of content in different ways. The company
has a web application ecosystem that directly integrates with its site and
enabling the enhancement of interactions (calendar, games, groups, instant messaging...).
Facebook also offers tools that allow professionals to interact with their
clients and promote their products or services.
The history of Facebook:
Facebook was born at Harvard on February 4, 2004. At first, only the university's students
could register. We then added some other American universities and
Canadians.
It was in 2006 that the site opened to everyone.
Its name comes (of course) from the English word "photo album".
The name at the beginning... Thefacebook.com.

In 2005, they removed the 'THE' at the beginning after purchasing the domain name.
facebook.com for... $200,000.
There's been a lot of talk about its creator, especially since the release of the book The Accidental.
Billionaires (The Revenge of a Lone Wolf). On October 1, 2010, the film The Social Network was released.
with the slogan: You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies.
4 months after its launch, an investor offered $10 million to Mark Zuckerberg for
buy the site. The young creator refused to become a millionaire. He did the right thing, he is
now a billionaire.
He received offers to buy at staggering amounts. The highest one is from the CEO of
Microsoft who offered him $15 billion! Response: "no!"
The site had 500 million members in 2010.
Facebook has been translated into several languages only since 2008.
The Quebec French version was launched on April 6, 2009.
Facebook is now available in 70 languages, including some funny or invented ones.
One can also 'facebook' in Latin.
