Introduction

Mobile phone media as the carrier of information dissemination and exchange belong to the
scope of technology. Therefore, the mobile phone has two side of impact on the students’
posses’ dual nature. Mobile phone media breaks the constraints of time and space, providing
a wealth of information resources to facilitate student learning exchanges. Also, if the mobile
phone medias in the improper application by secondary school students learning styles may
also lead to alienation, physical decline, moral personality dislocation, language learning
weakening and so on.

Before 2 decades the mobile phones were used by few people across the globe and the people
were using only in case of emergency and not for 24hrs a day. But in the last 2 decades there
is a tremendous advancement in the network technologies and internet facilities. The scientist
and innovators jointly start to improve the mobile technologies to make one unique device
which can be used to send and receive audio or video message or to use internet facilities or
to perform any computational work at a very nominal cost. Although the mobile phone makes
our life smooth but it has many evil effects also. The smart phone might be affecting one’s
thought process, Behaviour and altitude in a more negative and faster way. It does that so
finely and secretly that it becomes difficult to identify and cope up with. It is not an
exaggeration to say that smart phones have the power to influence most important decision
making process and choices. It changes personality; it changes the behaviour of a person.
Smart phone addiction is a well recognized condition, known to cause trauma and high level
anxiety pains. Addiction to remain online, compulsion to be active on social sites and games
inhibits ones emotional ability to focus on one topic for long. It has been already proved that
long hours of gaming make anyone impatient, addicted and unproductive. Long time effects
may be worse, permanent and affecting the more subconscious layer of behaviour. So the
suggestion is to keep phone away for a while and enjoy all the other good things life has to
offer.

Mobile phones have become an important part of our lives. It used to share messages, see
different news and images about the world around us. Phones have a significant role in
globalization. The concept globalization is that making the peoples of the world become
neighbours living next door. So mobile phone integrate' peoples relationship without
considering distance far apart. Mobile phone media double impact on the students, especially
negative impact.

1. Negative impact of mobile phone
Along with the numerous benefits, mobile phones also have various limitations. Harmful
effects of mobile phones on students it will affect the learning way of them with the network
technology and communication technology, the number of network information resources
grows in geometric progression, the diversification of the presentation to provide students
with abundant information resources, to facilitate students in a timely manner to solve
problems, develop student’s knowledge. Mobile media for students of information
processing, dissemination provides convenient, but also for the students to copy. Paste, copy
information resource provides an opportunity of leading the way students learn laziness.
Information resources illustrated something by audio and video and animation, which may
weaken the student’s ability to analyze and thinking.

1.1 Distraction
Sometimes mobile is a disturbing device that creates a distraction between your works. It is
seen in students that are easily distracted from their studies because of mobiles, as the device
contains applications that attract users to enjoy their software. One such application is the
various mobile games that are being played a couple of days make the people addicted and
distracted from their goals. The fully fantasized world of the internet and smart phones
distract students from studies, other than that lack of sleep also pays a vital role in distracting
their focus.

1.2 Ear problems

While listening to songs, watching movies, or calling for long time with headphones or
headset can damage the listening potential of ear decrease that will affect daily habits and
works of people and can cause temporary or permanent damages of ear goes as far as
deafness.

1.3 Wastage of time

Although mobiles are helpful in various aspects, it is one of the biggest things responsible for
the wastage of time. Most students and teenagers are affected by it. Students want to play
games, watching movies, listening songs, and other kinds of entertainment that waste their
precious time. So they can’t study with their time and also they even cannot understand the
preciseness of time which is very hazardous for their future. The other thing is that if they
waste their time uselessly they can’t study that become headache for their exam season which
leads them for depression.

1.4 Addiction to mobile phone

Addiction to mobile phone is termed as ‘’NOMOPHOBIA’’. In this mental disorder, people
are unable to stop themselves without using mobile phones. They even can’t imagine them

2|Page
self without a mobile. Using mobile phones too much a person addicted to them. They can’t
even lead their life properly because for in life there is thing which called sociality.

1.5 Cyber bulling

Cyber bulling means to send, post or sharing negative or harmful contents about someone
else . Research shows that most students and teenagers got cyber bullied. Cyber bulling puts
someone’s life in danger. Cyber crimes especially cyber bullying, give rise to students mental
health problems, which can also drive them into depression. Students are only teenagers.
They don’t have ample experiences to deal with such situations and can easily fall prey to
these troubles.

1.6 Security issues

These are the common issues that happen with mobile users. I phone IOS is a little bit secure
but in android phones breaching someone’s privacy and data is easier for hackers. Security
issues are the dangerous effects of using mobile phones for peoples. People faced a lot of
problems due to security issues, such as loss of money, image, reputation, and others.

1.7 Loss of study

Using mobile phones in excessive amount is a major disadvantage for students. Mobile
phones mostly affect the study of students. Mobile phones distract students from the study.
Students majorly focus on playing games, watching movies, and other entertainments on
mobile decrease their grades.

1.8 health problems

Excessive use of mobile phones causes the health problems such as swelling of the eyes and
other eyesight problems. Mobile phones include mental disorders such as anger, depression,
anxiety, tension, and others. Besides the harmful effects of radiation being emitted from
mobile phones on human health, there are other health issues that are related to using smart
phones. For instance the impact on the vision. Also, the constant usage of smart phones leads
to bending postures that can cause pain in the neck, back, or shoulders.

1.9, sleeping issues

Using the mobile phone in an excessive amount badly affects the sleeping routine. People use
mobile even during sleeping time. At night, some people stuck on their mobile phone’s
screen that disturbed their sleeping routine a lot. Students have quite heavy responsibilities
regarding their hectic hours at school or college; they also need to speed a lot of time at home
doing their home work. In addition to this, if they start wasting their precious time on mobile
phones, at last they will sacrifice their sleep. Another important reason for disturbing sleep is
proved by various researchers. It is believed that the radiations being used by mobile phones
disturb the natural sleep cycle. Besides this, these radiations also cause other symptoms that
combine to cause conditions like sleeplessness.

1.10 Accidents
People stuck in their mobile, even walking on roads or driving a car. Using a mobile phone
while driving causes accidents and puts the lives of others at risk. It is very dangerous to use
mobile while driving, as mobile users while driving can injure them and can kill other people
by accident.

1.11 Distance from relatives

Although mobiles connect the people from a distance and we can communicate with them
easily, but if we don’t use it properly, it can create distance from friends, relatives, family are
sitting in a restaurant and stuck to their phones and not to talking with each other.

1.12 Tension and anxiety

The light ray emitted from the mobile screen affects the eyes. Besides that, they directly
cause a headache. Also the over burdening of the brain by constantly playing games and
using other applications causes severe migraines. These headaches and migraines eventually
lead to stress, tension, anxiety, and at last depression.

1.13 Poor academic performance

All of these situations cause hurdles in the study of these students. They are not able to
remember things. They are not able to focus and learn. Nor are they able to remember things.
They lose their intelligence and become dull and irresponsible. They stop taking
responsibility for their failures and working for their success.

The conditions worsen with the introduction of mobile phones into educational institutions.
Moreover, they use mobile phones, even inside their class rooms, which show their
irresponsible behaviour.

1.14 Isolation
Students when failing in their exams, tests, or quizzes, take refuge in their smart phones.
They isolate themselves from their teachers and parents and lose themselves in their smart
phones. This isolation builds up and can lead to serious mental issues.

1.15 Increase in immoral activities

The vast acquaintance of the internet and social media gives them access to inappropriate
content. These immature brains divert to the wrong when they observe it to be something
new, fascinating, and mesmerizing. They will not even realize that this addiction is talking
them to not only social disturbance but also moral downfall.

4|Page
Considering the above background, it becomes not the need but the obligation of their elders,
specially parents and teachers, to control this usage to a limit where they can be protected
from all of these harmful effects. Parents should keep a constant check on their cell phones to
ensure their safety.

1.16 Cancer and other Tumours

Several studies among sizable populations have found a doubling of the risk of some brain
tumours after 10 or more years’ mobile phone use for about half a hour a day. Studies
indicate a possible link between mobile phone use and tumours of parotid gland (a salivary
gland in the region normally highly exposed to radiation during phone use). The world health
organization’s international agency for research on cancer (IARC) has classified the radiation
emitted by mobile phones as ‘’possibly carcinogenic to humans’’.

1.17 Damage to Fertility and Reproduction

Laboratory and observational studies have found damage to sperm, impaired female fertility
and damage to the unborn foetus from exposure to mobile phone radiation.

1.18 Geotaxis Effects:

Laboratory studies from different research groups suggest that even after short periods of
exposure to phone radiation, DNA strands can be broken and there are effects on gene
expression. Phone radiation is capable of disturbing the DNA repair mechanism, and this can
continue for several hours after the phone use.

1.19 Damage to Other Biological Processes:

Laboratory studies suggest that phone radiation can damage the blood-brain barrier, causing a
leakage of albumin into the brain. Studies have found significantly reduced levels of
melatonin in humans after about half an hour’s mobile phone use per day. Effects on heat
shock proteins (similar to a stress response), oxidative stress, apoptosis (cell death) and
damage to cell membranes have been identified in research. These are thought to have a role
in cancer development.

1.20 Contributes to the Development of Insomnia

Have you ever felt more awake after using Wi-Fi or even struggled to sleep through the
night? Reports of these phenomena have been frequent and even prompted a study in 2007
that evaluated low-frequency modulation from cell phones and its impact on sleep.
Participants were exposed to the electromagnetic signals from real phones or no signal from
fake phones. Those exposed to the electromagnetic radiation had a significantly more
difficult time falling asleep and changes in brainwave patterns were observed.

It’s been suggested that sleeping near a phone, in a home with Wi-Fi, or in an apartment
building with many Wi-Fi signals can create chronic sleep problems as the constant
bombardment of Wi-Fi pollution interferes with falling asleep and sleep patterns. For many,

5|Page
sleep deprivation is just the start for larger problems. The developments of depression and
hypertension have also been linked to inadequate sleep.

1.21 Damaging to Childhood Development

Exposure to non-thermal radio frequency radiation from Wi-Fi and cellular phones can
disrupt normal cellular development, especially fatal development. A 2004 animal study
linked exposure to delayed kidney development. These findings were supported by a 2009
Austrian study. In fact, the disruption of protein synthesis is so severe that authors
specifically noted, “This cell property is especially pronounced in growing tissues, that is, in
children and youth. Consequently, these population groups would be more susceptible than
average to the described effects.” In short, bathing the developmentally young in Wi-Fi
increases their risk of developmental issues.

1.22 Affects Cell Growth

When a group of Danish ninth graders experienced difficulty concentrating after sleeping
with their cell phones by their head, they performed an experiment to test the effect of
wireless Wi-Fi routers on garden cress. One set of plants was grown in a room free of
wireless radiation; the other group grew next to two routers that released the same amount of
radiation as a cell phone. The results the plants nearest the radiation didn’t grow.

1.23 Derails Brain Function

Scientists have begun to look at the impact of 4G radiation on brain function. Using MRI
technology, research performed just last year found that persons exposed to 4G radiation had
several areas of reduced brain activity.

1.24 Reduces Brain Activity in Females

A group of 30 healthy volunteers, 15 men and 15 women, were given a simple memory test.
First, the entire group was tested without any exposure to Wi-Fi radiation — no problem.
Then, they were exposed to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi from a wireless access point for about 45
minutes. During that portion of the testing, brain activity was measured and the women had a
noticeable change in brain activity and energy levels.

1.25 Neutralizes Sperm

Because we’ve known for a long time that the heat generated by laptops kills sperm. Well,
now it turns out that heat isn’t the only threat to a man’s virility. Research has found exposure
to Wi-Fi frequencies reduce sperm movement and cause DNA fragmentation. Both human
and animal testing has confirmed that exposure negatively affects sperm.

1.26 May Impact Fertility

The results of an animal study suggest that some wireless frequencies may prevent egg
implantation. During the study, mice exposed 2 hours a day for 45 days had significantly

6|Page
increased oxidative stress levels. The cellular damage and impact on DNA structure from
exposure suggest a strong possibility of abnormal pregnancy or failure of the egg to implant.

The Karolinska Institute in Sweden released a warning in 2011, stating: “Pregnant women are
cautioned to avoid using wireless devices themselves and distance themselves from other
users,” “Current US [and Canada standards for radio frequency and microwave radiation
from wireless technology are entirely inadequate,” and “Safety standards also ignore the
developing fetes…”

1.27 Provokes Cardiac Stress

If you think your heart races when surrounded by wireless networks or 3G or LTE cell
phones, it may not be in your head. A study involving 69 subjects reported that many of them
experienced a real physical response to electromagnetic frequencies. The physical response
was increased heart rate similar to the heart rate of an individual under stress.
