What is PowerPoint?

It is a program from the "Office" package, created by the company "Microsoft" computer
program whose purpose is to make presentations in the form of slides (Source:

multimedia presentations (without the need for Internet access) in a simple, creative and
more agile way based on the editing of slides or schematized texts referring to a specific
topic and that aim to inform and capture the attention of the public to whom it is directed.

allow information to be communicated through images, videos, text, sounds and animations,

to professional designs.

It is software that gives us the opportunity to give different aspects to our information for
presentation. In this way, it is useful both for formal presentations where you want to inform
about serious topics or, on the other hand, it can also be used to make more attractive
presentations, providing these with animations or hyperlinks that you can play with.

With PowerPoint you can combine: images, texts, graphics, audios, videos, sound effects and
animations, which serve as tools to add value to the presentations you make.

Power Point is a very versatile tool in terms of, as already mentioned, creating slides,
presentations and designs whatever the field in which you work (school, work or personal),
currently very popular among presentation designers and with constant updating that allows
us to have improvements and access to more tools to make our work more formal and
interactive.

In simple terms, it is a program designed to make presentations with outlined text, as well as
slide shows, text animations and clipart images or imported from computer images. Different
font, template and drawing designs can be applied to it. In my opinion it is a very practical
program to develop information and be able to present it to a specific audience and explain
it.

It serves as support to communicate the desired information visually and summarized.

PowerPoint has the purpose of simplifying the presentation of topics, through graphics,
images, videos and texts that produce a quick and better understanding of what you want to
express.

It gives you the freedom to make presentations appropriate to the environment and audience
they are aimed at.

It facilitates the use of large amounts of information represented on slides, made not only for
adults but also has a friendly interface for use by beginners or children

It gives us an opportunity to give a more aesthetic way to the presentation of a topic, in order
to keep the recipient attentive to the information.

Basic functions:

 Create a presentation by formatting the information to be presented.

 Insert and edit multimedia content.
 Display content dynamically and continuously.

It could be said that the three main functions of this program are: inserting text and giving it
the desired format using an editor, inserting and modifying images and/or graphics, and
showing the slides continuously with a specific system, This function is the most
characteristic of PowerPoint.

PowerPoint is one of the most popular programs for presentations, because it is easy to use
and because it has a very extensive range of tools with which you can creatively customize
the slides so that they better understand the information you want to share, such as:

1.- The use of templates; that can be done by the user, in addition to those that are already
pre-established.

2.- Being able to enter texts by varying the color and size of the letters according to the
user's needs and tastes.

3.- Images can be inserted illustrating the information presented and thus creating a better
presentation of the slide, facilitating a better understanding of what the slide is about, in
addition to being able to insert texts to the images complementing the exhibition.

4.- It has animation tools, with which you can give effects to texts and images, giving them a
better appearance.

5.- In the audio that we already mentioned, we can vary it between inserting music,
explanations, narrations, or sound animations, related talks that can be adjusted. This is
done intuitively with easy-to-use tools.

6.- In PowerPoint you can use videos to make the slide, videos that give a better
understanding of the topic being developed.

7.- One of the characteristics of PowerPoint is that it allows us to integrate different file
formats to complement our presentation.

8.- One of the new functions of PowerPoint is the Design Ideas function which gives us
different ways to arrange the information on the slide, making a better prepared
presentation.

9.- It also has the ability to open formats from other platforms and even allows us to save
them in formats other than PowerPoint, you can use extensions such as: PPT or PPS, among
others.

With all these tools, PowerPoint helps us capture the attention of those to whom our material
is presented. And making this information easy to analyze and remember since its animations
and creative content attracts the recipient. The use of PowerPoint has become very
widespread, especially among professionals, business people and students, but the range of
uses is increasingly wider and more accessible.

Some tips to have a good presentation and keep the audience's attention are:

 Define the message: Know what we want to convey about the topic.
 Know the public: Express a clear message to whom it is directed, we can create a
"technical sheet" that consists of 5 key points (need, object of communication,
public, concept and treatment.)
 Develop the topic: These are the tools to reach the concept of the topic
addressed.

Tips for an effective presentation:

1. Minimize the number of slides.

2. Choose a font size that is easy for users to read.
3. Keep slide text simple.
4. Use visuals to make it easier to express your message.
5. Make labels on graphs and diagrams understandable.
6. Apply subtle and consistent slide backgrounds.
7. Check spelling and grammar.
8. Use colors according to the situation and to make your presentation look more
friendly.
9. Do not saturate the slides with information, always keeping in mind that it is an
illustrated summary of the topic to be discussed. It is recommended that each
slide that contains text be distributed in 3 paragraphs with 5 lines each, in this
way the text is visible and understandable to the public.
10.Do not exceed the number of animations per slide: Using many animations can be
counterproductive; instead of attracting the audience's attention, we will only
distract their attention from our content itself.

In summary, the basic function of the software is to create personalized slides for the
presentation of some type of information, but its functions are not limited to this, since with
the tools it gives us, they can even create small video games. within the presentations.

In PowerPoint we can perform various actions such as inserting, designing, carrying out
transactions, animations, presenting slides and many more things.
